The Graduate

This is a picture of the latest cake that I have made.  It is not  near as pretty as the young lady sitting next to it, but  I was pleased.  :-)  I made this for my "baby" sister this past weekend for her high school graduation celebration.  She asked for zebra stripes, hot pink, and gerber daisies and was very happy with how it turned out.  You cannot tell very well from the photo, but it is also a topsy turvy cake, and new technique that I have been working on.  I felt it fit w/ the whimsy of the zebra strips.  The cake was a dark chocolate fudge cake w/ cream cheese filling and iced in cream cheese.  The zebra strips and decorative pink and black balls are made w/ fondant.  I had so much fun making this for my sister.  Congratulations Emily, I love you!

I Do...

This past weekend I was so thrilled to be able to make the wedding and groom's cakes for a very special cousin of mine.  She used bluebonnets and white roses as her flowers and her colors were blue and white.  For the wedding cake I did a white cake with lemon buttercream.  The top and bottom layer were filled with a strawberry mousse and the middle layer was filled with  lemon creamcheese.  The groom's cakes were a simple chocolate fudge and topped with chocolate tuxedo strawberries.  It was a beautiful day for an outdoor wedding.  Congratulations Tori and Taylor!

ALVIN!!!!

It has been a while since my last post and it has mainly been because life has just gotten busy.  Here are two cakes that I made a while back for two different friends of mine.  I made the camo cake for a friend of mine's little boy who was having a hunting themed birthday party.  Then, the chimpmunks cake was for, you guessed it, an Alvin and the Chipmunks party.  Did you know that it is very hard to find chipmunks birthday decorations?  You would think with how popular the movie is that they would have birthday supplies for this theme.  I really think they are missing out here!  :-)

To Infinity and Beyond!

I just finished this cake today, and I have to say, I had a blast making this one.  I tried something a little different than I normally do.  I cut the shape of buzz out of fondant and then handpainted all of the detail on him.  Then I placed him on the decorated cake.  I was so happy with how it all turned out.  Hope you enjoy!

Strawberry Shortcake

I just finished this precious cake today.  As you can see, it is a Strawberry Shortcake themed cake.  The bottom layer is a chocolate cake with buttercream filling and the top is vanilla with buttercream filling.  I then covered and decorated the outside with fondant to give it that smooth finish.  I was very happy with how it all turned out, I loved the polka dots and stripes!

"Poppin" up some birthday fun!

For my daughter's birthday this year we celebrated at the movie theater. What better treat to have than a tub of popcorn! This tub of popcorn was not ordinary though, it was a cake! I made a red velvet cake with a cream cheese filling. I decorated the sides to look like a popcorn tub and then topped it with my very own buttered popcorn...(marshmallows) The kids loved it and it was the perfect centerpiece.

These are the popcorn cupcakes that I made and sent with her to school on her birthday. I wanted to practice making the popcorn before making the cake. They loved it!

All the little girls love Tinkerbell. I made this cute cake for a sweet friend of mine's little girl. It was a chocolate cake with buttercream icing. Have I mentioned that I love making cute children's cakes? :-)

This cake was one my husband and I worked together on back in the summer. It was quite the challenge, but something we wanted to try. We were going for the "real tree" camo look, and felt we accomplished it pretty well.

A friend of mine was in need of a pretty, yet simple cake, and I said I would give it a shot. It resembles the one I made for mine and my husband's 10 year vow renewal (which is posted down below) Because I made that one for myself, I felt confident that I could do it again. I also made two sheet cakes that you can see off to the corner of the picture. It turned out so beautiful, and the flowers that they had to place on top really made it pop! The cake was a lemon cake with a lemon cream cheese filling in two of the layers, and a raspberry mousse in the middle layer. It was iced in a lemon buttercream very subtle, yet fresh flavors.
